I just did a book cover illustration about the Trojan War of Homer. After searching a lot of visual materials, I found a couple of Ancient Greek bust images for inspiration. Probably they were from Hellenistic period that searching beauty reached the highest point. I drew Helen and Paris, the main characters of the story, from profile as Greek painters had done on pottery. They are looking at the ancient city, Troya.
Since Homer’s time, has beauty changed? What is the criteria for beauty? What is the ideal proportion? These were some of the questions I asked myself while I was working on the picture below…
